Oystercatchers Cottage is a nature lover’s paradise, nestled in one of the most captivating corners of the Isle of Skye. Our seaside location offers a front-row seat to the island’s diverse wildlife and stunning natural beauty, making it the perfect retreat for those who cherish the great outdoors.
As you settle into the cottage, you’ll quickly discover why this area is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The peninsula opposite us, Ardnish, forms the eastern edge of Broadford Bay and is renowned as one of the best birding spots on Skye. From the comfort of your holiday home, you can observe a rich variety of birdlife. Keep an eye out for migrants making brief stopovers and, if you’re lucky, you might even spot a rare vagrant species.
We’ve set up the garden with bird feeders to attract our feathered friends closer to the cottage. Grab the binoculars we provide, settle into a comfortable spot, and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Skye’s birdlife. You might even be treated to the sight of majestic sea eagles soaring overhead, and you will certainly hear the distinctive calls of geese and curlews.
For many of our guests, the highlight of their stay is catching a glimpse of the playful otters that frequent the area. These charming creatures can sometimes be seen at the bottom of our garden, further downstream, or on the opposite shore. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of spotting an otter in its natural habitat, and at Oystercatchers, you have a prime vantage point.
As night falls, a different kind of natural spectacle unfolds. Thanks to our location away from major light pollution, the cottage is an excellent spot for stargazing. On clear nights, the sky comes alive with a dazzling array of stars, offering a humbling reminder of our place in the universe.
For those who prefer their wildlife encounters on the water, Oystercatchers is the perfect base. Bring your own kayaks, canoes, or stand-up paddleboards and launch them right from our grounds. At high tide, the sea can come right up to the edge of our garden, allowing easy access for your aquatic adventures.
We’ve equipped the cottage with maps and guidebooks to help you explore the natural wonders of Skye. Whether you’re planning a gentle stroll to spot local flora and fauna or a more challenging hike in the nearby Cuillin mountains, you’ll find all the information you need to make the most of your nature-filled holiday.
At Oystercatchers, we believe that the natural world is one of Skye’s greatest treasures. We invite you to come and experience it for yourself, waking to the call of seabirds and falling asleep to the gentle lapping of waves. Here, nature isn’t just a backdrop – it’s an integral part of your holiday experience.
