And it is now almost exactly 10 years since we had our first booking at Oystercatchers, 10 years w.e.f. 22nd September since we launched our website and a fair bit over 10 years since we actually bought the house. Since then, we have welcomed:
- A total of 235 stays of 3 days or more from 15 countries all over the world:
- 13 German families
- 9 Families from the USA
- 6 each from France and the Netherlands
- 3 each from Canada, Italy and Poland
- 2 each from Australia and Belgium
- And 1 from New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Spain, and our first guests were from China
- Too many to count from Britain
We have been very fortunate to welcome back some guests who have holidayed with us on a regular basis every year since 2017 and it is telling to us that of our 7 confirmed bookings for 2025 so far, 5 of them are very familiar and welcome returning faces – well names, as regretfully, I have never been fortunate enough to meet any of you after the first guests! (not that I didn’t want to meet you, I hasten to add, but job requirements have meant we have had to move a bit further away.)
Fortunately, we have had 3 lovely housekeepers, a couple of great gardeners and a cracking young window cleaner to keep everything ticking over. Our electrician is German (but living on Skye), our house painter is local (though not originally) and our various plumbers have all been local to the island. All these people contribute to making your holiday run smoothly and comfortably, and all make my life so much easier.
I can look back through rose-coloured spectacles and forget about some of the more prosaic issues like licence applications, getting to grips with the website and other various time-consuming administrative tasks, as overall I have thoroughly enjoyed the process. We love getting the house ready at the start of each season and adding small touches we hope make it fell more homely for you. And, most of all, we love coming up to Skye ourselves to build walls, dig ditches, make sheds, decorate, and occasionally, just occasionally get out in the kayaks or cycle off to one of the many local cafes and just….be! We hope you do too, and that you will continue to do so.
